Looking back, one of A360’s most remarkable aspects is the vision that inspired its creation. A360 was established to address the reproductive and sexual health needs of adolescent girls at a time when there was no sufficiently robust strategy to respond to those needs. Girls lacked the confidence and agency to seek services, while health systems and providers were not adequately equipped to deliver adolescent-responsive care. To bridge these gaps, SFH and its partners worked closely with adolescent girls, their mothers, husbands, community and religious leaders, healthcare providers, and government stakeholders who co-create solutions that address both individual and systemic barriers to quality adolescent sexual and reproductive health services.
Out of A360’s many achievements, I’m most proud of the replicability of its interventions. The program’s approaches remain relevant and adaptable and have given rise to three additional A360 projects in Nigeria, with more opportunities still emerging. This demonstrates the strength and applicability of the solutions developed through the program.
While implementation came with challenges, we viewed them as learning and innovation opportunities. Rather than obstacles, they became catalysts for program improvement and the development of new components and projects that strengthened our impact over time.
