Human-Centered Design Methods

“We used the Card Sort exercise with girls. We asked, ‘If you want to talk about sex, who do you talk to?’ And with the cards in their hands, they just talked. We listened.” What is it?

From the guide’s creator, IDEO.org:

“Human-centered design is a practical, repeatable approach to arriving at innovative solutions for time-old challenges. Think of IDEO’s Methods as a step-by-step guide to unleashing your creativity, putting the people you serve at the center of your design process to come up with new answers to difficult problems.”

How did we use it?

In collaboration with our project partner IDEO.org, A360 teams used Human-Centered Design Methods to keep girls’ questions, concerns, and priorities at the center of the design process.

Consider using it to:

Better understand the people you serve, keep users at the center of your design research, and turn your findings into opportunities — for creating new interventions or making mid-course adjustments.
